Passenger Vehicles35-minute course
NSC Fleet Essentials is the only fleet driver training program with vehicle-specific course content. Our first course is for employees who drive passenger vehicles for work and provides instruction on:
● Safe backing● Vehicle dynamics● Pre- and post-trip inspections● The Six Deadly Choices — speeding, violating the right of way, distracted driving, turning improperly, driving left of center, and following too closely● Other vehicle-specific content for fleet drivers
Medium-duty Trucks
Medium-duty trucks include all variations of pickup trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,001 and 26,000 pounds. Although some of these trucks may look like regular pickup trucks, they come in various customized configurations to meet the job's specific requirements. They are all much heavier, longer, and taller than passenger vehicles. The differences in height, length, size, design, configuration, and dynamics also affect how you drive and what you will do to prevent crashes and collisions. This means moving them requires special skills and training.
Cargo Vans
Cargo vans are single-unit vehicles that typically come equipped with two front seats. Even though cargo vans are classified as vehicles that weigh less than 10,000 pounds, they are quite different from the passenger vehicles people drive off the job. Cargo vans are often longer, heavier, and taller and have unique controls and dashboard designs, affecting how you drive and what measures are needed to avoid incidents and crashes. Drivers of cargo vans must understand these differences and adapt their driving behaviors to this vehicle type.
Driving Professionally20-minute course
This course helps fleet drivers understand key characteristics of professional driving and recognize the importance of organization representation and liability while driving. It explores the difference between driving for personal benefit and driving in the course of work. Driver qualification and preparation are key elements to safe vehicle operation and include the driver’s state of mind.
Vehicle Dynamics40-minute course
This course helps drivers understand their vehicle’s capabilities and limitations and how the physical forces of inertia, gravity, and velocity affect it. Participants also learn why it is important to avoid risky maneuvers and how to avoid them. The course takes an in-depth look at vehicle dynamics—such as yaw, pitch, and roll—and demonstrates how they contribute to safe vehicle operation.
Distracted Fleet Driver20-minute course
Distracted driving claimed 3,142 lives in 2020. This course reminds fleet drivers to be attentive, alert and engaged and teaches them how to minimize distractions while driving. It reviews the science of distracted driving, reveals myths about multitasking, and covers the dangerous effects of distracted driving for the fleet driver. The course also looks at the unique sources of distractions for fleet drivers, shows how to eliminate them, and describes how to identify other road users that may be distracted -- and how to deal with them.
